My Top 5 Summer Trend Predictions

Image from chicagomag.com

Hey everyone!  Since spring is already upon us, I've decided to go ahead and make my predictions for the upcoming summer trends.   Last year's summer trends and this year's spring trends are all making their way over into 2011's trends for the summer.  I'm super excited for this!  Especially since a lot of fun, bright, colors and patterns are going to be involved!

1.  The tribal trend will go wild this summer with colorful patterns and textures.  Anything with a tribal feel is going to be on trend.

2.  Floral and animal prints are going to be everywhere!  If you haven't caught on yet, anything with an abstract print is going to be see on everyone.  I especially love a floral skirt or dress paired with simple, feminine accessories.

3.  Crop tops are going to be huge!  Just about everyone is either wearing or talking about crop tops.  I can see why because they are so cute!  They would look amazing with jean shorts for the summer.

4.  Anything jean on top!  Things like jean vests, jean jackets, button down jean shirts, etc.  You know what I'm saying.

5.  Possibly my favorite trend, coral is going to be on everything from scarfs to rings to necklaces.  Mosey on over to my Forever21 haul to check out my coral statement piece I purchased from them.  I think it's about time coral is a trend because it's such a pretty color!

Do you guys have any summer predictions?  Let me know in the comments! :)

Product Review: Sally Hansen Salon Effects

Hey everyone!  In the last couple of weeks, I've been hearing a lot about the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips.  My best friend, Brittany, tried the zebra print ones about a month ago and loved them!  She got so many complements on them.  They looked super pretty and stayed on for a long time, so I decided to give them a try.  I didn't want to copy her and get the same pattern and I didn't want something that you can easily recreate with regular nail polish, so I went for Laced Up.  So far it's been a week and they are still going strong!  They look exactly like they did when I first put them on.  They haven't even chipped!

It was a little difficult putting them on at first because they wouldn't stick that well on some of the edges.  I decided to get my clear nail polish and put a light coat of it over them to help them stay.  It worked really well!  A lot of the strips were too big for my nails, so I had to trim them down.  Overall they are definitely worth the $8.50 to buy them.

Have you guys tried them before?  Let me know in the comments below!

Forever21 Haul!!!

(From Google Images)

As many of you know, Forever21 is my favorite store.  You can get anything from there!  Tops, dresses, cheap accessories, good quality makeup, etc.  You name it, they have it.  I recently went on an online shopping spree because I was in need of some new spring items.  Let's face it, my favorite sweaters from winter aren't going to cut it when it's already getting close to 80 degrees where I live.

(All pictures from Forever21.  Collage created my me.)

I heart this dress!  This is the perfect dress to add to your spring wardrobe.  This dress is so light and airy.  It keeps you cool and comfortable.  It's the perfect thing to throw on if you are going out with your friends on a Saturday or have a lunch date.  I paired this dress with the white cardigan I also got from Forever21.  For accessories, I wore some silver leaf earrings my aunt made me and black sandals I got from Rack Room Shoes.

2. Speckled Dolman Top $15.80

I would have linked the top so you could buy it, but when I bought mine it was a final sale item.  I was really lucky I got it.  I was on Forever21's website last night and there are a bunch of tops similar to this one that you can find.  This is probably my favorite top now.  It's so comfy!  This dolman top looks great on everyone and with anything!  I got mine in baby pink, which I think looks good on pretty much any skin tone.   A simple 3/4 sleeve top is stylish and figure flattering to most people and looks best when paired with tailored pieces, such as stovepipe jeans or flat-front shorts.  It was a little chilly when I first wore it, so I paired it with a pair of dark blue skinny jeans.  As for accessories, I went simple on the earrings and wore a pair of gold studs my mom has from a while ago, the coral pendant necklace also featured in this haul, and a pair of $20.00 brown boots from Wal-Mart.  It looked so good!

I'm really glad I got this cardigan because it feels so good!  It's so soft.  It's 65% polyester. It keeps you cool and warm at the same time.  It's very strange, but feels amazing! And look how cute it is!  You always need a good white cardigan in your closet. It's an essential that you can pair with anything and make it look fabulous.  You can read how I first wore it back up at number 1.

This is the most adorable skirt I've ever scene. Ever.  It's so cute and comfortable.  It makes you look polished and professional without trying too hard.  I know it's a little expensive for a skirt, but I think it's just a really unique item.  The first time I saw it I thought, "I HAVE to have this!"  It was a must have.  I paired this with just a plain white tank top from Old Navy that was tucked in and a navy blue cardigan from Kohl's.  For foot wear and accessories, I wore some brown sandals that had different beading details on it from Wal-Mart and my gold bangle from this shopping trip.

This is the perfect accessory for any outfit.  It's simple enough to wear with a busy pattern and dramatic enough to wear with a simple outfit.  And look at how cheap it is!  I wore this cute little, or shall I say big, bangle with the blue speckled top and the lace tiered skirt.

So cute!  I love this one-size-fits-all ring.  This pretty little thing is the perfect accent for your spring wardrobe!  It can go with so many different outfits and can transition easily from day to night.  This ring looks really pretty paired with the baby pink dolman top or an ivory racer-back tank with some skinny jeans.

Seriously?!  This is only $6.80?  This necklace is such a statement piece to have in your wardrobe.  Not only is the gold on trend for spring, but so is the coral color of the pendant.  This necklace basically screams spring.  It looks adorable matched with the dolman top or with a solid colored tank in grey, white, or light pink.  Keep the rest of your accessories minimal since this is such a statement piece.

I love how simple, but pretty this top is.  It's so cute paired with my black skinny jeans I got from T.J. Maxx and black boots that I got from Target.  Since the weather flip flops back and forth where I live, I would only wear this outfit when it gets a bit cooler.  When the weather is warmer, I would where this with some white shorts and black sandals.  The rose tusk necklace also looks really cute coupled with it.  Since this shirt is so loose fitting on top, try to keep your pieces on the bottom more structured.

This is the perfect accessory for the Boho girl.  I love how unique this necklace is.  It looks super cute paired with solid or simple patterned shirts and dresses.  Warning: Items are bigger than they appear.  When I first saw this necklace, I didn't realize how big it really was.  When I was looking at the size for this necklace it said it was 1.97".  I was like, "Ok, that shouldn't be that big."  Wrong.  It's the size of my thumb!  Now, I'm not criticizing it.  I am just warning you.  It really is super cute though!

I promise. I'm done for now.  Haha!  Sorry that was such a long post, but I wanted to give you guys my honest opinion on everything I got.  I hope you guys can find some spring goodies from Forever21 too!  Thanks for reading!

XOXO,
Katey

Elle's 15 Random Questions Tag (In Blog Form)

http://images.easyelementsextra.com/paper/normal/plain-white-tag.jpg

Hi everyone! This blog post is my recreation of Elle's TAG video. Here's the link to watch her video

1. What do you think you can do but can't?  I think I'm a really good dancer while I'm doing it, but I stink at it.  Haha!

2. What's a difficult word for you to pronounce?  Is it bad that I can't think of any off the top of my head???

3. What is a favorite TV show from your childhood?  I loved Lizzie McGuire and That's So Raven.  I would always try to say "Oh snap!" like Raven did, but I couldn't do it. It was disappointing.

4. What are your virtues and vices?  Virtues: Loyal, trusting, and motherly.  I don't know if motherly is the right word for it, but I like taking care of people and watching over them.  Vices: Impatient, stubborn, and I forgive too easily.

5. What's more important: love, fame, power, or money?  I still don't see how this could be a question, but of course I have to say love.  No one would be happy without being loved and loving someone back.

6. If you could live in any era/time period, when would it be and why?  Honestly, I would say the future.  Most people are probably thinking about what era in the past, but I would love to go to the future.  I want to see what technologies they have developed. It would be awesome!  In the past though, it would have to be the 80's-90's.  I've always felt like I should have grown up then. I mean, some of my favorite shows are Saved by the Bell and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

7. If you had to redo your entire wardrobe with 2 stores, what would they be and why? Um, definitely Forever21 and Nordstrom.

8. Can you recall what you were doing a year ago on this day?  It's kind of sad that I can't remember.  I was probably in school.  I would have been in 8th grade then.

9. Do you have reoccurring dreams? If so, explain?  There is one dream I've had where I go to this little town.  I'm always the one driving there.  I'm by myself every time and I stop in these little shops.  One's a boutique, another is a bakery, and a cafe.  Everyone of them has a person I know.  It's almost like I'm visiting my hometown, but I'm not.  It's really weird.

10. What's your horoscope?  I am a Capricorn.  I think it suits me.

11. What does your dream bedroom look like?  It probably looks like Miley Cyrus's, but with my own touches here and there.

12. What position do you sleep in?  I'm usually a side sleeper. Or a stomach sleeper.  I just flop all over the place really.

13. Who is your favorite vampire of all time? Um, I don't really watch vampire movies or shows... so I don't know any.

14. What are you currently wearing on your feet?  Haha, I'm wearing nothing on my feet.  I'm all natural. Haha!

15. Do you have neat handwriting? My handwriting is ok?? Haha!

Katey

Style Secret: Printed Leggings

More and more celebrities have been spotted wearing printed leggings.  Celebrities from Miley Cyrus to Fergie have been spotted wearing this adorable trend.  I think the trend is really cute!  The leggings are much more comfortable than jeans and you can move in them without ripping them like you would if you wore regular skinny jeans.  The cool thing, is that you can wear them by themselves or with a longer shirt.  Personally, I would wear them with heeled booties like these and a plain flowy tank top, maybe in white if there is a lot of color on the leggings.  I love leggings.  They come in so many pretty patterns, too!

Hope you guys liked it!  Do you have a favorite pair of printed leggings?  Let me know in the comments section!

Spring Makeup Trends to Try Now!

Hey everyone!  My last post was on my new favorite spring fashion trends.  I decided to do the makeup trends of the upcoming spring.  I hope you like them!

Images from becomegorgeous.com (I created the collage)
Natural Makeup

It seems that people can't get enough of this gorgeous makeup look.  The natural look looks great on everyone of all ages so no wonder it's maintained it's popularity throughout the seasons.  Use a tinted moisturizer and some concealer to make your skin look flawless.  Add a touch of blush to the apples of your cheeks and add some highlighter just above your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, and on the tip of your chin to make your skin look dewy.  Add mascara and leave your lips a neutral color and your ready to go!  To go the extra mile, add some earth toned eye shadow to the lid.

Bold Eyes

Not for the quiet girl, these eyes say "Look at me!"  Bold eyes are in for the spring.  Though they can be a bit dramatic for everyday if you wear them like the model in the photo, you can tone them down for everyday.  Use a hot pink or lavender shadow and barely dust it over you eyelid.  Use the same color or a darker version in the crease.  Keep it light in the inner corners with a cream or white eyeshadow.  Add some nude gloss to keep it balanced.

Smokey Eyes

It looks as if smokey eye makeup will never be out of season.  Though it may be out shadowed by other makeup trends every other season, it's still there waiting in the background.  Creating a smokey eye is not difficult and with a little bit of practice and effort one can master this eye look in no time.  To create the classic smokey eye, take a charcoal eyeshadow and sweep it all over the eye.  Make sure to blend, blend, blend upwards and out!  Take a lighter grey eye shadow and sweep from the middle of the lid to the crease.  Make sure to keep blending!  To make your eyes look ultra dramatic, take a volumizing and lengthening black mascara and coat the eyelashes with it.

Bold Lips

This is perhaps the number one spring trend for 2011.  Bright, bold, candy-colored lips have been seen all over the Spring/Summer 2011 runways. The hard part is to tell which bold lip color is for you.  If your skin is a warmer shade with golden or yellow undertones, use an orange or tangerine lipstick.  These will definitely enhance your skin tone and brighten up your entire face!  If your skin is super light, use a bright fuchsia.  The blue and purple undertones of the fuchsia lipstick will complement the blue and purple undertones of your skin.   For olive based skin tones, opt for a coral lipstick.  In fact, coral can be worn with about any skin tone.  If your not sure, stick to a bright, classic red.  You can never go wrong with the bright, bold red!

Thanks for reading!  Which trend are you going to try out?  Let me know in the comments below!

Spring Trends 2011 Glamour Guide

Hey everyone! I'm going to do a post on my favorite Spring trends for 2011.  Keep in mind that you don't have to follow them exactly.  Mix them up, make them your own, and most importantly have fun with it!  Hope you like it.

Romantic Lace Dress $17.80

This dress is the perfect piece for your spring wardrobe.  Lace is the number one trend for this upcoming season.  The best thing is that you can work this piece so many ways!  To keep it nice and light wear a neutral colored belt and sandals with it.  If it gets chilly you can pair a bright colored cardigan with it.  To toughen the look up, wear a pair of brown slouchy boots with it and your hair in a side braid.

Crown Jewels Stretch Bracelet $10.80

I love this little jewel bracelet!  You can wear this with so many things.  Since it's so versatile, you can wear this with the lace dress and a jewel colored cardigan.  Think fuchsia, purple, or light blue for the cardigan.  This bracelet would look amazing with a little black dress for a girl's night out.

Braided Rope Belt $4.80

First, the skinny belt is seen everywhere right now.  It can be worn with anything and everything. The braided belt has been a signature style piece since our parents were changing our diapers!  Forever21’s updated skinny version is perfect for pairing it with loose or form-fitting dresses, flowy tops, or even around your hips with jean shorts!  And second, the braid goes along with the nautical trends for spring.  Am I the only one who thinks this looks kind of like rope?

Over the Shoulder Bag $22.80

Say au revoir to the big hobo bags of last season and bonjour to the smaller shoulder bags of 2011!  Not only is the smaller size on trend, so is the muted blue color of the bag.  Muted and neutral colors are apart of the minimalist trend.  To pull off this look pair this bag with a pretty tank top and a flowy, floral skirt for the perfect everyday look.  Keep the accessories minimal. Hence, the minimalist trend.

Wild Daisy Bead Ring $4.80

This pretty little thing is the perfect jewelry accent for your spring wardrobe.  I can tell you now that flower rings are going to be big this season.  You can make this item work with anything.  I would wear this ring with an ivory racer-back tank, skinny jeans, and long, layered gold necklaces.

Framed Pendant Necklace $6.80

This simple coral necklace will add color to any outfit.  It screams spring with it's coral colored stone and patterned gold chain.  Layer this over a white slouchy t-shirt and some jean cutoff shorts and you have the cutest look!

Tribal Inspiration Heels $25.80

Make a bold fashion statement with these shoes!  These tribal inspired leatherette shoes that feature an open toe, braided rope, and leatherette T-strap are going to be the it shoe of the spring.  These wooden heels would be killer with a pair of cropped pants and a sheer layered tank. Not only are these shoes totally on-trend, they are sure to be super comfy too!

Button Shoulder Nautical Top $13.80

Seaside chic, this relaxed fit nautical top is totally in for spring right now.  I like how this top looks so comfy!  You can wear this top with practically any bottom and jewelry combination.  Wear this with light washed jeans and some braided rope sandals.  Or to make it more polished wear with white, high-waisted shorts and some nude heels.

Floral Crochet Sweater Top $24.80

Formally the so-called grandma fabric has now taken a chic spin and has shed its matronly image.  Soft romantic fabrics like lace and crochet are spring's it fabrics.  You can wear this top with skinny jeans or shorts paired with some gold bangles.  To dress it up, wear it with a black pencil skirt and some black pumps.

All of these items and images featured are from Forever21.  I hope you guys liked the new post and remember, mix them up and have fun with it.  Fashion is about expressing yourself and wearing what you want to.  Any other tips or trends? Let me know in the comments below!
